Why You Have To Keep Your Cosmetics Container Clean - Part 2

Make-up comes in contact with our skin directly as we use them everyday. Therefore, the effects of these bacteria can be unsightly to the face that we so try hard to make beautiful. One of the most common effects of dirty make-up bags, applicators and boxes include peri-oral dermatitis which can be contracted when using makeup that is old and expired. They may cause little red bumps in the skin that look a little more like acne.

So how can you prevent this from happening to you? And how can you maintain a hygienic cosmetics container that will be of less risk to your skin health? Here are some ways that you may do to keep your make-up kit really face friendly:

- If you have had that make-up kit for a little more than 3-5 years, dispose of it now. Whether you look at it under a microscope or not, you have surely gotten all sorts of bacteria into it, as you have used and reused them all throughout these years. Also buy one that you can wash off with water and soap every now and then, such as hard plastics so you may be able to clean and disinfect them well. Buying velvet, leather or cloth-lined make-up kits may be pretty but you won't be able to clean them thoroughly regularly.

- Aside from where you keep them, maintain what you keep inside. Know about your make-up's shelf life, and dispose of those that have lapsed. Just like food, they are not safe to use when they are old and expired. One great rule is to smell them. If they smell bad, throw them out. Here are some shelf-life advisory for your make-up. EYELINER - up to 3 years, EYESHADOW - up to 3 years, FOUNDATION - 12 months for water based ones and 18 months for oil-based ones, LIPSTICK - 1-2 years and MASCARA - 4 months. The general rule is liquid make-up expires faster. Clear your cosmetics container of all the rubbish, and buy new ones.
